MANUAL; DOCUMENTATION

The Virtual plastic surgery software interface is explained on this page. Click on the numbers to go to corresponding information.

1 : Before view of the combined tab. This view shows the original, unmodified image.

2 : After view of the combined tab. This is the working view where you apply your modifications.

3Before Tab: Shows only the original image
After tab: Shows only the modified image
Combined tab : shows both original and modified image.

Tip: You can switch between tabs with your left and right keyboard arrows
Tip: zoom and scrolling are synchronized between before and after tabs, and between the combined views.

4 : Drag : This is the main tool. Hold click with left mouse button and move your mouse on the image. It will "drag" the image and create appropriate warping.

Grow: This tool will enlarge image where applied. Press left button without moving the mouse.

Shrink: This tool will shrink the image where applied. Press left button without moving the mouse.

Tip : Entire brush area is warped. You should experiment with bigger or smaller brush and see what gives you the desired modification.

5 : Reconstruct : This tool will progressively revert the selected image portion to its original state.

Tip: this tool can be handy to revert only a part of an image to its original state, so you can keep your modifications on the rest of an image.

6 : Drawing tools : The drawing tools will let you write text, draw free form, straight lines, filled or empty square or ellipse shapes on the modified image.

Tip: Use the filled shapes to hide the eyes (anonymize) of your subject if needed.
Tip: Use the drawing and text functions after all your modifications are done, do avoid warping conflicts.
Tip: Drawings are dependant on brush size setting. Set brush size to small value to get proper result.

7 : Eraser : The eraser will brutally revert the selected image portion to its original state, including drawings and texts.

8 : Open : This option is to select the image that you want to work with in the VPSS.

9 : Open Folder: This option is to import previously worked Before and After images in the VPSS. You must select a folder previously created with the VPSS save image option (see below).

10 : Save image: This icon is our smart saving feature. It will save your work as a folder containing: the original image, the modified image, and a combination of both. Here is the save box:

The save path is where you define where to create the folder (typically on your desktop).
The folder name is where you define the name of the folder (which can then be reopened with "Open folder" option; see #9 above ).
Before & After Size: this is where you define the size of the saved original and modified images. Default size is original image size.
Combined image size : this is where you define the size of the combined image that contains both image horizontally merged for easy comparison. Default size is combined image with, plus a few separation pixels.

Here is what contains the saved folder:

Tip : Image size setting can be useful if you need a special size for web inclusion.

11 : Printing : This will print on a single paper sheet both the before and after images, vertically positioned.

Tip: you can preview the print result by going in the menu File / Print Preview.

12 : Undo: this quick access to the undo function will cancel last action.

13 : Reset : this quick access to the reset function will revert the modified image to its original state.

14 : Color : this is where you select the color that will be used by all the drawing functions.

15 : Pre selected brush sizes : this is a quick access to pre defined brush sizes, from very small to very large. These brush sizes are determined as a percentage of total image size, so they will always be coherent.

16 : Custom brush size: this is a quick access to custom brush size in pixel (brush diameter = pixel setting).

17 : Zoom feature : will let you zoom, and unzoom your image. Zoom is synchronized between Before and after tabs, and between the two views of the combined tab.

18 : Scrolling hand : will let you grab your image to scroll it. Scroll is synchronized between Before and After tabs, and between the two views of the combined tab.

19 : Webcam : this will call the webcam capture screen.

20 : The setting menu will let you set the watermarks. Watermarks are text that will appear over your saved combined image. There are 3 watermark zones : Top left corner (default is text “Before”), Top right corner (default is text "After"), and middle bottom (default is empty). You can put any short text you want in the watermarks setting fields.

21 : Performance: Performance of the VPSS depends on image size. Smaller image will allow better performance, but larger image will put more strain on your computer. The setting allows you to set max image size so you always get a good performance while using the VPSS.
